Michael Barranco is a New York-based musician. He currently resides in Fairfax, Virginia as a D.M.A. candidate in Percussion Performance at George Mason University. He is an active performer, educator, and instrument repair artisan, primarily focused on percussion instruments. At George Mason, Michael holds the titles of Graduate Lecturer and Graduate Peer Advisor, teaching world music courses and assisting graduate students with their imperative needs. Michael's current research focuses on the timbre qualities of acoustic percussion instruments. As a performer, he has joined numerous ensembles including the American Festival Pops Orchestra, Capital City Symphony, and Symphony Orchestra of Northern Virginia. His current percussion studies are led by John Spirtas of the Washington National Opera. Michael is endorsed by Artifact Percussion.
